LESSON LEARNT
The day
Was warm.
The air
Whispered
The promise
Of rain.
She stepped
Out
Without
A raincoat
Or umbrella
Thinking
In the
Car
She'd be
Safe.
After all
It was
A drive
She
Was going
On!
The going
Was
Smooth
Until it
Started
To
Pour
And the
Car
Hit
What appeared
To be
A pothole!
She tried
To backup
And forward
Bur
The tire
Was stuck.
After many
Attempts
And curses,
She knew
Getting out
Was the
Only option.
Help
Wouldn't come
In any
Other
Way
Unless she
Sought it.
She did
Just that
And got
Drenched.
Lesson learnt
She
Promised
Herself
To not
Ever
Step out
Without
An umbrella
Or raincoat
Again!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
TANNED
There he
Was
With a
Beer in
Hand.
Lounging, he
Was
Trying
To get
A tan.
The day
Was
Bright.
The sun
Hot...
As time
Went by
It
Got hotter
But he
Just stayed
Splayed
Like
A drunk
Spider!
The aim
Was to
Get
Tanned
Not
Burnt...
Drunk as he
Was though
After three
Beers
The difference
He forgot.
So, he
Lay there
Getting
Crisp
As Can
Be...
It'd be
Delicious
If he
Were
A
Meal!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
DAYDREAMER BOOGLIE
There was
Booglie
Relaxing
With a
Cool
Drink.
His eyes
Sparkled
With daydreams .
I looked
Into
Them
And saw
Us
Walking
Along the
Water's edge
The sand
Between
Our toes.
With laughter
Burnling
Up
And the
Breeze
In our
Faces,
I saw
What he
Dreamed
Of...
I loved him
So
For he
Dreamed
Of us
Being ourselves
Ad a
Whole!
Booglie
My daydreamer
In his
Daydream
To me,
He proposed...
Saying yes,
We danced
From the
Daydream
To the
Present!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE SHOW
The sun
Shone
Brightly
Draping
Me
In gold
From.head
To toe.
Glorious
I felt,
Like
A
Princess.
I Danced
And sang
With gentle
Vouce
And light
Steps...
I felt
Watched
By eyes
I knew not
Still,
I sang and
Danced
On.
All of a
Sudden
A veil
Covered
The sun
In Gray...
The gold
Vanished
From
My whole...
There I
Stood
Frozen
In a
Dance move
And a song
Note.
How long
I know
Not.
But then
Came
The rain
Drenching
Mr
Completely.
Coming
To my
Senses
I dashed
Indoors.
The show
Was
Over...
What a
Performance
Deserving
Thunderous
Applause!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
ONE OF THEM
I walked
The halls.
All was
Quiet.
The sound
Of hush
Filled
The air...
Every step
I took
Felt like
Intrusion
On a
Silent
Cry...
My shoes
In
My hand
I walked
In quiet
Reverence.
Oh
I saluted
The stillness
Of those
Standing
By
Theirs
Was the
Place
I knew
And it
Had been
So
For ages
Gone by..
I walked
On
Never leaving
The halls,
Going
Nowwhere
But forth and
Back.
One of
The stills
I was...
Only difference,
I walked!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
...ON ANOTHER DAY
It sat
On the
Railing
The pigeon
Clad
In Grey.
It cooed
Ruffling
Its.
Feathers.
It was
Waiting
For its
Lover!.
It cooed
Again
Calling
To
The Love
It longed
For...
I watched
Waiting with
Bated breath
Would
The Love
Come or would
The pigeon
Fly
Lone?
I watched
It a sudden
Take flight...
It took
Itself
Off and
Away...
Clearly
Knowing
Love
Was to be
Met with
On another
Day!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE GAME
It was
A lovely
Day
So, I
Thought
I'd go
Outside to
Play.
With my
Ball,
I played
For Long
Hours
Outdoors
I stayed.
The birds
Were
Cheering
My game
While
The breeze
Gently
Refreshed
Me...
It was
A game
That beat
All games...
I won
As I scored
Goals
Against
The imaginary
Team.
The sun
Dipped
When I
Returned
Indoors
Flushed with
Victory.
Oh,
What a
One man
Team!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE DREAM
Oh
It took only
A moment
To realize
The dream
I'd dreamed
Wasn't
Mine.
It went
Back
Yeats
To the
Heart of
A dreamer
Someone
Who
Loved
Envisioning
The future!
The one
Who
Dreamed
Was
At heart
Fair
And saw
Everything
In tones
Of happy
Not sad!
I had
The dream
Sowed
In
My soul
One day
To see
It
Real
Just as
The Master
Dreamer
Had intended!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
LOVE
Love is
Funny.
Love is
Dull.
It's at
Times
A heavy
Weight
On the
Skull.
At other
Whiles
It's precious
And true
Love is
A couple
Of
Loons!
Oh it
Mischievously
Dangerous
Yes, it is.
Love is
The song
Of life
Leading,
And
Astray those
Who
Know the
Words
To irs every
Line.
Love, it is
A true
Lie!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
BUTTERFLY KING
A butterfly
Flutted
From
Flower to
Flower.
I admired
Its Beauty...
In the Garden
Of so
Many pretty
Ones,
This butterfly
Was
The prettiest!
I whispered
Quiet
Praise
Upon it...
Somehow
It heard
Me.
Across the
Garden
It flitted
To where
I sat...
Poised
On my
Finger!
O pretty
Butterfly
I greeted
It.
How delighted
To see
You
Am I!
Oh, it is
My honor
It spoke
In a
Soft tone
For you
Are
The queen
Of
All blooms.
I, a queen?
Laughing
I asked...
Not possible
I affirmed.
The most
Beautiful
Queen
Indeed,is
What you
Are
The Little
Pretty said
I reaffirm!
Laughing
Quietly
I blew
It a kiss
And lo!
It turned
Into
The King
Of my
Dreams!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE PERFORMANCE
There was
A loud
Clap of
Thunder.
A lightning
Bolt streaked
Across
The sky.
The cliuds
Began
To sing...
The parched
Earth
Drank in
The clouds'
Words
Quenching
Their thirst!
I heard it
All
As i watched
The rain
Fall...
Words
Of
Songs
Written
By
Fluffs
Of water...
Who knew
A thunderstorm
Held such
Showmanship?
Through
The whole
Storm
I was
Entranced.
Marveling
At
The wonder
Of
Lighting, thunder
And rain...
The songs
From the
Sky
Feeding earth
With
Passionate
Claim!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE PLAN
Lazily, I
Yawned.
Ditting
Up,
I looked
Around.
Not a
Soul
In sight...
Good, I
Thought
No one
Would catch
Me
At what
I'd next
Do!
Yes, I had
A wonderful
Plan
To raid
The fridge
Of
Chicken
And ham.
I decided
To play
Unwell
And threw
My Head
To one
Side
And Softly
Cried...
They
All rushed
Fo
My side
Fussing
Over me.
Cradling me
In their
Arms,
To the kitchen
They took
Yours truly.
Awww
Poor thing
Is hungry
Do saying
They began
Feeding me
Chicken
And ham
Just ad I
Had thought
And planned!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
GRUMPY
Saw the
Grumpy
Face
Peering at
Me
As I
Sat reading
Like a
Dark
Cloud it
Looked on
At
What I
Was
Doing.
I stopped,
Closed
The book
And leaned
Back.
The face
Came
Nearer.
It kept
Staring
While it
I kept
Ignoring!
Through
Half closed
Lids
I could
See,
Grumpy
Staring at
Me.
I fought
Back
A laugh
Pretending
To sleep
As
Frowny
Eyed the
Book
I was
Reading.
It
Was
All about
Laughter,
Smiles
And cheer.
Everything
Grumpy
Was against.
Frowning
Deeply
Grumpy
Fled from
Me!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE SECERET
It started
To pour
When I
Wad
Outdoors.
I had
No umbrella
Or raincoat
So I simply
Danced
Under the
Heavenly
Downpour.
I met
The falling
Drops
With glee
Knowing
Well
That in time
The sun
Would
Dry me!
I said
Nothing
To the rain
Lest it
Feel sad
And leave...
The deal
Was
A secret
Between
The sun
And me.
I let
The rain
Soak
Me
While i
Danced
In its
Company
Letting it
Believe
It had captured
Forever
And wholly!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
DANCING CHIMES
A tingling
Sound
Roused me
From
My nap.
I looked
Around
But no
One
Was about.
The tingling
Came again.
This time
I stood
And paced...
Looking
Everywhere
Yet not
A thing
Caught
My eye.
Tingle again
And again..
But where
From
I did not
Know.
Then I
Looked
Up
And saw
The wind
Chimes
Were dancing
With
The wind
At their
Heels.
That was
The
Tingling
That woke
Me!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE SCUPLPTOR
Squiggly
Lines
Fill the
Pages
Of the
Book
I an
Reading.
I laugh
I frown,
Even
At times
Shed a
Tear...
The lines
Are
So dear.
They are
Prose
And poetry
Such
Feelings
On pages
Never
Before
Have
I seen.
I read
It all
Over and over
Not getting
Enough
Of
The lines,
My heart
Aches
For
Encores!
So much
Joy
And beauty
In lines
So squiggly.
The writer
Must
Indeed be
A word
And line
Sculptor!
FREDERIKA MENEZES
THE LOUD BANGS
A loud
Bang
Woke me
Up.
I sat
Straight
Trying
To understand
From where
It had
Come.
Beside me
Booglie
Slept
Like
An angel!
A smile
On my
Face
I gently
Caressed
His brow
Whispered
That
I loved him
And fell
Back
Oh the
Pillow!
Just as
Sleep
Closed my
My eyes,
Another
Loud Bang
MAde
Me
Sit upright!
I looked
Around
But there
Was amiss...
It was then
That
My Booglie
Mumbled
In his
Sleep...
Fireworks,
Crakers
I'm so
Excited!
I knew
The source
Of
The
Loud bangs
Was
My ever sweet
Booglie
Full of
Gas!
